Price: £8.50 per child (all children must be accompanied by an adult) + booking fee
The Cluster is excited… and maybe just a teensy bit terrified (but shhh, don’t tell the monsters) to welcome author Jason Brown and the brilliantly bonkers world of his book Carl Loft and the Oover Monster.
This laugh-out-loud story (perfect for ages 5 to 7) tackles a childhood problem we can all relate to: fear. Enter Carl Loft, a small boy with a big imagination, who finds himself face-to-face with his mum’s villainous vacuum cleaner a.k.a. the dreaded Oover Monster! Luckily, he’s got some unlikely monster mates hiding around the house who are more than happy to help him take on the beast. Along the way Carl learns something important: fear is all in the mind.
At this monstrously fun Cluster event you can expect…

Storytime with Jason where you get to discover about Carl Loft, the Oover Monster and their monster pals.
Monster mask-making where your own ‘little monster can unleash their own wild, weird, wobbly creations.
Jason will also be signing books and selling merch so you can take home a little monster magic.
So grab your little monster tamers, tell them to bring their bravest doodling hands, and join us at The Cluster for a monstrously good time. Because sometimes the scariest things in life… are actually the funniest.
The Cluster and the brilliant Jason Brown are teaming up to bring you this event.
Jason Brown is a children’s author and illustrator from Kiddington, Oxfordshire. Inspired by science fiction, fantasy, and cryptozoology, he created the self-published book Carl Loft and the Oover Monster, which was successfully funded via Kickstarter and is now available in local independent bookshops.
Jason also brings his characters to life through arts and crafts events, selling themed merchandise and running interactive reading and drawing sessions at schools, community centres, and local markets.

Jason Brown is a children’s author and illustrator based in Oxfordshire. Inspired by a lifelong love of science fiction, fantasy, and cryptozoology, he wrote and illustrated Carl Loft and the Oover Monster.
Originally launched through a successful Kickstarter campaign, the project grew from a planned digital paperback into a beautifully litho-printed hardback, with a revised second edition now available in independent bookshops across Oxfordshire.
Beyond his books, Jason creates a range of themed merchandise – from monster bookmarks and greetings cards to posters, fridge magnets, and art prints – which he sells at local arts and crafts markets. He also regularly visits schools and community spaces, combining book readings with creative arts sessions where children (and often parents too) get to bring their own monsters to life.
